Plex is a powerful media streaming platform that lets you organize, access, and stream your movies, TV shows, music, and photos across multiple devices. Once your media server is set up, install the Plex app on your preferred device:
If you want to access your media when you’re away from home, enable Remote Access:
The Plex app makes it easy to access and stream your media collection from anywhere. Whether you’re watching on your TV, phone, or laptop, Plex provides a seamless and organized media experience.
To access your media from the Plex app, you need to add a Plex Media Server. This allows you to stream your movies, TV shows, music, and photos across different devices. Here’s how to do it step by step.
First, you need to set up your Plex Media Server if you haven’t already. Download and install Plex Media Server from the official Plex website. Choose the version that matches your computer’s operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux) or install it on a compatible NAS device. Once installed, launch Plex Media Server and sign in with your Plex account.
After signing in, open the Plex web interface by going to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
in your browser. From here, click on “Add Library”, select the type of media (Movies, TV Shows, Music, Photos), and choose the folders where your media files are stored. Plex will automatically scan and organize your content, making it ready for streaming.
Now that your Plex Media Server is set up, it’s time to connect it to the Plex app on your devices. Download and install the Plex app from the App Store (iOS), Google Play Store (Android), Smart TV app stores, Roku, Fire TV, or other streaming device stores. Open the Plex app and sign in with the same Plex account used for your media server.
The Plex app will automatically search for available Plex Media Servers on the same network. If your server appears, simply select it to connect. If it doesn’t show up, you can add it manually by entering the server’s IP address. To find the IP address, open Plex Media Server on your computer, go to Settings > Remote Access, and note the server’s local IP.
Once connected, you can browse your media library, stream content, and enjoy Plex’s features like automatic metadata organization and subtitle support. If you want to access your server remotely when outside your home network, enable Remote Access in Plex Media Server settings. This allows you to stream content from anywhere using the Plex app.
Adding a Plex server to your app is simple and unlocks the full potential of your media collection. With your library now connected, you can enjoy seamless streaming on all your devices.
